Reverb11 – Day 10 – Soul Food!

Caught up once again, phew! Today’s Reverb11 prompt is all about the soul food, babay. 😉

10. Soul Food
How do you nourish your soul? What activities are essential nutrients for your soul’s well-being?

My soul feeds on inspiration. What am I talking about, she positively gobbles up the stuff, LOL. I find the written word to be the most satisfying and the longest-lasting in my system. It’s incredibly filling to read the words of thinkers and motivators, people whose auras pump out light and inspiration.

There are two such women I absolutely love because of their outlooks on life and their way with words: Danielle LaPorte and Premakarini. I don’t know what miracles of fate made me stumble on their blogs a couple months ago, but I’m so glad and grateful to have them as online resources. Look through some of their latest posts and you’ll see what I mean.

I also find nourishment in expressing myself and going back to those words at a later date. There are times when we don’t realise the impact of what we jot down, when we don’t appreciate the flow of words simply because they come from within and we feel it’s not up to par or worth much anyway. It’s important to go back over your written thoughts because they often have hidden gems to make your existence richer and more fulfilling. Hands in the air if you’ve thought “Wow, I wrote that?” as you read over your stuff.

Interpersonal interaction, listening to music, and writing are my essential nutrients. I believe it’s important to stay connected to your friends and close to your family. I think we should all have days to just hang out and bond because it’s so easy to get caught up in life’s frantic pace and forget to do the simple things that bring us joy.

Put away your smartphone and go share a pizza with a friend. Get off the internet and go hang out in the real world. Write cards and letters. Call. Go dancing. Go skiing. Go bungee-jumping? 😀 LOL, maybe not. Whatever you do, though, remember to keep your soul well fed. It helps. :)

Reverb11 – Day 9 – Crystal Wings

So I think yesterday’s prompt was a fun one!

9. Superpower
If you were a superhero, what would your power be?

Mine would definitely be flying. Totally, absolutely, without a doubt. There are times I dream about it. I’ve always been fascinated by superheroes who could fly and totally envious of fictional human characters who had wings. I mean, where do I have to sign up to get me some?! LOL. I think I’d prefer to sprout my wings as I need them and not have them out all the time, though. Oh, and they’d be translucent; white is kinda overdone and black is just plain freaky. Other colours don’t pack the same visual punch as those two, y’know?

Seriously, though. I believe the ability to fly is so freeing, so exhilarating. Imagine being able to zip through the clouds or float around on a lazy day; running your fingers through a rainbow because you’re high enough to touch it and its ephemeral beauty leaving you in awe; racing an eagle or a falcon because your wings rock too, dammit. 😀 Heh heh heh.

Reverb11 – Day 8 – Beyond

This is a tough one. Reverb11 definitely makes you face the truth whether you want to or not.

8. Limits
We often learn about our limits the hard way. Were there any limits you realized this past year? Alternately, what self-imposed limits were you able to move beyond this year?

Life won’t always pander to my desires and expectations. I can’t make other people feel the same way I do if they’re simply not interested. It’s practically impossible for them to carve time out from their “busy” schedules if they couldn’t be arsed. After all, it’s not about what we say but what we do. Fact.

“Words are mere bubbles of water, but deeds are drops of gold.” – Chinese proverb

That said, it’s getting easier to look past all that and live without clinging to anyone. Why force it if it ain’t true, right? Just doesn’t make any sense to put oneself out there without being met halfway. Less grief and whatnot. The greatest freedom is to shrug off manipulation: make your own decisions, live your own life, and defend your right to do so with everything you have.

Reverb11 – Day 7 – Giving

source:  Carolyn Rubenstein

Yes, I’m back on track now. I didn’t have internet access for a couple days and it totally threw off my rhythm. Anyway!, let me get cracking. Here’s the prompt for the seventh day:

7. Giving
“The purpose of life is to discover your gift. The meaning of life is to give your gift away.” (David Viscott) What is your gift to give?

Hmm. My gift, huh? I’d have to go with awareness and expression. I feel most alive and in tune with myself whenever I explore those two concepts. It’s usually through my blog but could also be in my journal or my poetry. I believe they are my gifts to give because I’m constantly thinking of new ways to shed light on old problems of choice, lifestyle, and overall contentment. The Musings of My Soul came about as a result of all that introspection and a great need to share. My loved ones tell me I think too much, LOL. It’s not exactly something I can help ’cause it’s hardwired into my being. Descartes said it best: Cogito ergo sum. “I think, therefore I am.”

Reverb11 – Day 6 – Yoga

Today’s prompt for Reverb11.

6. Ease
What can you do to add ease to 2012?

I can get off my derriere and restart my yoga. I did it for two or three months earlier this year and it was amazing. The lightness, the calm, the energy;  yoga is THE bee’s knees.

Why did I stop? Somehow my left ankle got injured while navigating an uneven footpath and I couldn’t do the stretches anymore. You know how it is when you fall off the wagon on exercise, you take forever to get back on it. That said, I’m sure I’ll hop back on before we ring in 2012. I hope. *digits crossed* Could definitely do with the buzz and flexibility to liven up my days. 😉

Reverb11 – Day 5 – Twilight

I’m so glad I’m finally on track with Reverb11! Now I can answer the prompts as they come each day and not have to rush through a backlog.

5. Reading
What has been your favorite book (or books if you can’t pick just one) that you’ve read this year?

Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight saga just blew me away. I know it’s been years since she started the series, but I never got on the Twilit train when it was all the rage. Each book was a treat and I was rather sad to reach the end. Can’t really say much without inadvertently spilling spoilers, but you can read the overviews online and judge for yourself. I think my enjoyment stemmed from the fact that her vampires were like no other I have encountered; I mean, I wanted to be one! Their characteristics were quite enticing, no?

A lot of people had negative stuff to say about Bella and I still don’t understand why. She was a different kind of heroine though, maybe that’s why she really appealed to me. I also watched all the movies and they were NICE. The special effects were on point, people. I can’t wait for Breaking Dawn – Part 2 to hit the big screen, woot woot! 😀 Oh yeah, Team Edward all the way, baby.

So, if you enjoy fantasies and you’d like a fresh take on vampires, I highly recommend Stephenie Meyer. Try one book and see if you can resist wanting to know what happens next.

Reverb11 – Day 4 – Beauty :)

via this post

Here we are at the fourth day and I’m almost caught up! Phew, cranking these out one after the other does take its toll. Right then, let’s tackle that day’s task for Reverb11.

4. Beauty
How have your standards of beauty shifted in the past year?

For quite some time now, I’ve thought that the fairest beauty lies within us. Sure there are gorgeous people everywhere, but their personalities aren’t always as nice and that just decreases their attractiveness as far as I’m concerned. So I can’t really say my standards of beauty have shifted, but I can say they’ve been reinforced through personal experience.

Some of the most fabulous women in my circle aren’t just conventionally luscious, their auras gleam with inner beauty and draw everyone in with the brightness of their glow. I’m totally in love with each and every one of them because they’re living proof that beautiful souls always shine.

Beauty means colour, warmth, laughter, companionship, love; it’s not about how we look but how we behave as we live and dance on this wonderful planet called Earth. :)

Reverb11 – Day 3 – A Look Back

Third prompt for Reverb11. It is ON.

3. Year in Review. As you reflect back on the happenings of 2011, what were your high points and what were your low points? What do you notice as you look back on the year as a whole?

High points: My summer in Nigeria; I got to see some family there and reconnect with old friends. A couple of my best girlfriends are now in my life and they make all the difference. :) Good times, good times. I also discovered that I was quite popular in high school and everyone just assumed I knew. I’m like why didn’t anyone tell me back then, LOL. Felt nice to know I wasn’t part of the wallpaper like I thought, AND they thought I was cool. 😀 Heh heh heh.

Low points: Um. Lost love. Heartaches and heartbreaks. Uncertainty concerning work and further education. I won’t bore you with details but there were a fair few thorns mixed with my bed of roses.

As a whole, though, it’s been a year of definite growth. I’m not the same person I was back in January and I’m thankful for that. It’s all about the forward movement, you know? Hasn’t been an easy road thus far but I wouldn’t have it any other way. :) After all, trials can only make you stronger if they don’t break you first; since I’m not broken, I’m definitely stronger, bigger, better. The world is not ready, LOL.

Reverb11 – Day 2 – Dream Piece

Hey! How’s it going? :) Hope you enjoy this reflection project for 2011. I don’t know why but something about  it makes me feel more aware of what lies ahead. Anyway, on to the second prompt from Carolyn.

2. Writing. What piece of writing are you most proud of from 2011? How does this piece differ from your other pieces?

That’s easy. Definitely This is My Dream, a post from my February archive. I wrote it in 90 minutes while chatting with a friend online and it was the first of its kind. It was different from my previous articles because it covered social awareness and responsibility, topics I’d never addressed before because I was focused on emotional exploration and expression. That one post generated an incredible amount of traffic on my blog, which in turn blew my mind away and made me feel real special, LOL. I find myself using it as a standard nowadays to determine if my output is up to par or not. It’s a bit daunting because I never know if I can pull off the same impact, but my writing seems to be doing just fine so far. :)

OK, that’s it for the second prompt. Are you interested in Reverb11? Why not take a few minutes every day to think about where you’ve been and where you’re going? Even if you feel you can’t write about it or are too shy to do so, please reflect on 2011 and aim higher for 2012.

Shalom.

Reverb11 – Day 1 – Double E

I’m doing something a little different this month. Instead of blogging whenever the spirit takes me, I’m going to follow an initiative called Reverb11. I came across it on Carolyn Rubenstein’s blog and it seemed like a great idea so yeah, why not? Allow me to quote her introduction to the project and how it works before I go any farther:

The purpose of Reverb11 is to reflect on the past year and usher in the new year with intention. Rather than blindly entering 2012, you enter the new year with a renewed sense of purpose and empowerment. This new perspective enables you to be more proactive rather than merely reactive.
Each day during the month of December, I will be posting a prompt. I will also organize the prompts on a page in my sidebar for easy reference. Also, on this sidebar page, I will add resources and other inspiring morsels as we go. Additionally, if you will be participating in Reverb11, there will be a place for you to add your link to your blog so we can support one another along the way.
Aside from the daily prompts, Tiffany and I are setting up a Facebook group for discussion, support, and networking. And finally, we are also planning to host evening phone chats to bring the Reverb11 experience to life (virtual confetti will be provided!).

So, with that said, on to the first prompt. I need to catch up so I’ll be as quick as possible. :)

Prompt #1: One Word
Encapsulate the year 2011 in one word. Explain why you’re choosing that word. Now, imagine it’s one year from today, what would you like the word to be that captures 2012 for you?
(Author: Gwen Bell)

I choose this for 2011: empowering. I have come across some incredibly inspiring people with major insights and awesome expression. It’s been a year of information, enlightenment, and connection, all of which have combined to broaden my horizons and make me a better thinker. Somehow I found my way to various blogs and websites that fed my desire to learn more about tapping into the inner well of creativity, and I strongly believe the Law of Attraction was at work there. Anyway, more on that in another post. :)

A year from today, hmmm. What will 2012 be? In a word, electric. I feel there is so much just waiting, aching to be discovered and expressed. You know how it is when you’re preparing for a major event and gathering all the tools you think you’ll need? Yeah, that’s how it is in my world right now. I’m gathering amazing material to guide me and I don’t even know where I’m going yet.

One thing’s for sure though, it’s gonna be one wild ride. Heck yeah. Not just electric but explosive, unprecedented, mind-boggling; I’ve been waiting too long to shake my life up and damn it, I’m making it happen within the next 12 months!
